Kid Friendly Ideas for this Wintertime
It definitely feels different this year, due to Covid, especially this winter and around the holidays. We thought we’d list a few ideas for things to do with kids, especially given the circumstances:
Visit Experience Cortland for a ton of info and links about outdoor ideas. See link below.
Weather permitting, there should be outdoor skating at the Village Green on Main St. Homer.
For a bit of a drive, visit Lights on the Lake in Syracuse (undergoing some changes this year- see https://www.syracuse.com/entertainment/2020/10/lights-on-the-lake-returning-with-some-changes-due-to-coronavirus.html, but this is a wonderful annual tradition worth the drive!
Visit Lime Hollow for hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoeing.
The J.M. McDonald Sports Complex has a variety of options available this winter including skating, toddler skating, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and softball.
The local libraries have some wonderful (mostly online) programs happening around early literacy, take and make projects, national cookie cutter week ideas (at Homer Library), new books, and much more. Check them out!
Greek Peak has some deals going on right now for skiing and other outdoor fun. The Cortland Youth Center has some information.
When indoors, one idea is to grow indoor herbs, sprouts and plants.
Bird feeders are great to put out in the winter when there are less feeding options for them locally. There are great online birding resources. Check out the not so far Cornell Lab of Ornithology- link is provided below.
There are some great documentaries out there for kids- one idea is Andy Goldsworthy who creates these really inspiring natural sculptures. Video link is below.
