Positive Parenting 101: Preschoolers (3-5 years old)
We’re taking a look at some positive parenting tips that can help you and your preschooler communicate and spend quality time together in this week’s post.
Positive Parenting Tips for Preschoolers:
Keep Spending Time Reading Together: Continuing to set aside those special learning moments to read together are a great way to nurture your child’s love for books and education. Taking a trip to the library is another fun way to keep the learning going!
Helping Out: When it comes to simple chores, let your child lend you a helping hand.
Playing Together: Encourage your child to practice sharing and friendship by playing with other children.
Stay Consistent: When disciplining undesirable behavior, be sure that you’re consistent and clear. Explain what behavior you expect, and show them how to behave that way. Remember not just to say “no.” Follow up by explaining clearly what the expected behavior is instead.
Talking Together: As your child develops important language skills, be sure that you’re speaking in complete sentences and using “grown up” words. Take time to help them use the correct words and phrases.
Problem Solving: When you find your child upset with a problem at hand, help them break down the steps that they need to take to resolve it.
Giving Choices: Provide your child with a limited number of simple choices that they can make each day. Things like what clothes to wear, when to play, and what to eat for a snack are all great places to start.
