Celebrate Safely: Enjoying Fireworks and the 4th in Cortland County

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and in Cortland County, we're getting ready to celebrate! One of the highlights of this holiday is watching the dazzling fireworks displays with our children. It's an enchanting experience that fills our hearts with joy. However, as parents, it's crucial that we prioritize the safety of our little ones. In this blog post, we'll explore the excitement of fireworks in Cortland County while sharing essential tips on keeping our children safe during the festivities.

Having Fun

Fireworks have a magical quality that captivates both kids and adults alike. The Fourth of July provides us with the perfect opportunity to come together as a family, witnessing the beauty of these displays and creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Ensuring Fireworks Safety

While we eagerly anticipate the joy of fireworks, it's essential to remember that they can pose risks if not handled safely. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, more than 3,000 kids are sent to the emergency room every year just because of fireworks. As responsible parents, let's equip ourselves with the knowledge to protect our children during the celebrations.

Safe Kids Worldwide has three main suggestions for parents during this fun time of the year:

  1. Check out public fireworks instead of putting them on yourself. Here in Cortland County, we have fireworks at Dwyer Memorial Park on Saturday and in Cincinnatus on Sunday too!

  2. Try out glow sticks this year instead of sparklers. Did you know that sparklers can get hotter than 1200 degrees?

  3. Keep fireworks away from your children. Adult supervision is key, and it’s essential that children understand they must be a safe distance from all fireworks.

As we eagerly anticipate the Fourth of July weekend in Cortland County, let's create a safe environment for our children to enjoy the wonders of fireworks. By prioritizing their safety and following these essential tips, we can ensure a memorable and incident-free celebration!
